Not exactly DJI-related unless you’re in the US, but figured this might help someone about to place an order.
DHL Express is putting a hold on shipping anything over $800 (around £603) to the US. They’re blaming it on a surge in customs paperwork after new tariffs were rolled out by the Trump administration.
This starts Monday and affects shipments from any country to US consumers. Business-to-business stuff is still going through, but even those might hit delays.
Before, anything under $2,500 didn’t need much paperwork. But now, with the new checks in place, the bar’s been lowered to $800. DHL says it’s causing a pile-up of customs clearances, and they’re trying to work through it—but shipments over that limit are looking at multi-day delays.
They’ll still deliver stuff under $800 for now, but on May 2nd, the White House plans to crack down even more—especially on packages from China and Hong Kong. That’s when the loophole allowing small shipments to skip duties gets closed.
Shein and Temu already warned prices might go up because of it. The government’s reasoning? They say some Chinese shippers are sneaking in drugs and mislabeling packages. This move is apparently part of a broader push to fight synthetic opioids.
China responded by calling it bullying and said fentanyl is “America’s problem.”
Oh, and Hongkong Post is also suspending sea mail to the US and will stop taking US-bound parcels starting April 27.
