Did anyone else end up returning their osmo action 4?

I was pretty disappointed with the camera, which was very different from what I saw in all the online reviews.

I agree it is great for content creators, but for regular people just wanting a camera for their trips, it’s not that good.

My biggest problem was the file sizes, 700MB for just 40 seconds of video. The video bitrate was so high that my travel laptop couldn’t even play it because it maxed out the CPU.

A single day of basic footage would take up tens of gigabytes, which isn’t practical for someone who’s not creating content for a living.

I compared the video quality with my Z Fold 5 (which uses the S21 camera system), and the difference was obvious. The phone had better picture and video quality, and the file sizes were at least half as big, sometimes even smaller, compared to the OSMO Action.

I realized most of the reviews I saw were from YouTubers, who are fine with large files and spending lots of time editing.

Overall, I think it was a big waste of time and money.

I mean. . .did you try adjusting the settings?

No, and I may buy a 2nd

I am just an average person who loves adventure, and I’m really enjoying it! 4K DLog? Yes, please! I don’t edit on my travel laptop either, but I use it to transfer everything to my media drives. Sometimes I shoot 300GB during a two-week trip and then do all the editing when I get back home on my powerful desktop.

If it is not your thing, then stick to your phone, but in terms of quality and adjustability, this is WAY better for video, and maybe even for photos too.

Have you shared any of your work anywhere? I’m a fellow beginner and would love to get some inspiration. Hoping I wasn’t silly for getting it and that I’ll end up using it a lot!

I love the ease of use and quality. Fits my needs perfectly.

These are features, not bugs. It’s the next logical step after someone has maxed out the capabilities of their phone.

Its an amazing camera, I take it everywhere! You would have to pry it out of my cold dead hands! Total GoPro killer

Yes, got sucked in by all the sponsored YT videos and ‘influencers’ not realising at the time they were all sponsored! Lack of footage quality (possibly due to bad compression) soon became apparent. Returned.

HEVC really puts a heavy load on the CPU. Intel 12th gen and up handle it pretty well.

AMD’s 5000 series, on the other hand, falls short in this area.

Funny enough, my main setup with an AMD 5950x/3090, a 16-core powerhouse, struggles with HEVC. But my laptop with a 12950HX/3070Ti-M breezes through the footage much quicker and more smoothly.

Gotta love tech!

Can I edit videos on a new 13th-gen i7 Evo core?

Thats because of the iGPU in the 12950hx, those are great when in use.

Desktop is running a 3090. Dont believe HEVC utilizes any GPU so its just CPU i believe.

Nvidia GPUs have supported h265 since the 1600 series
