Did I get a counterfeit Mavic 3 Pro or RC controller?

I’m pretty sure the RC controller (at minimum) and maybe the Mavic 3 Pro I bought from Amazon are counterfeit.

  1. Bought from Amazon Warehouse ‘Like New.’

  2. Packaging was in decent shape, drone still had protective stickers, but there were minor marks, and it didn’t look brand new. I’m in the US, but the drone has an EU Decibel sticker—so at best, it’s a European model. Camera looks fine.

  3. First red flag: The RC controller and drone weren’t paired. The drone was bound to a different controller. I had to unbind it and restart both devices several times to get them to pair.

  4. Second red flag: When I connected the DJI RC to my Wi-Fi, it showed up as ‘Xiaomi Mi’ on the network. Not sure if the previous owner renamed it or if that’s something sketchy.

  5. Third red flag: I checked the serial number of the original controller bound to the drone—it was for a DJI RC Pro first activated over a year ago. The DJI RC I received shows as ‘DJI Mavic 3 Pro (Repeater)’ on DJI’s website. I thought that meant it was counterfeit, but I found another DJI RC serial number online, and it showed ‘Mavic 3 Mini (Repeater),’ so now I’m confused. What do your controllers show up as on DJI’s site? (https://service.dji.com/device/search?re=us&lang=en)

  6. Fourth red flag: I linked both the drone and controller to my DJI account through the controller, but they don’t show up in my account when I log in from a browser.

Drone serial number says it was first activated last fall, which is different from the timeline of the original RC Pro it was bound to.

Should I return everything? Buy a cheap DJI RC for $100 and keep the drone? Or should I just test fly it and see how it goes?

Any other ways to verify if it’s authentic and safe to fly?

You need to talk to a DJI service center. Only they can give you a definite answer.

Thanks! I actually chatted with DJI support, gave them all the serial numbers, and they said everything checks out. I’m still not 100% convinced, but I’ll probably test fly it. I have time to return it if anything feels off.

DJI said it’s legit, and you’re still suspicious? :joy:

I think they just used the same online tool I did to check the numbers. They couldn’t explain why the drone and controller show as linked to my account but don’t show up when I log in from a browser. I’ll test fly it, but if I run into more issues, it’s going back.

Return it.
