I’m about to get a drone and can’t decide between two choices:
DJI Air 3 with just one battery and the RC-N3 controller (the basic kit without the smart controller)
DJI Mini 4 Pro Fly More Combo (comes with 3 batteries, charger hub, and carrying bag)
I’ll be using it for travel, just flying for fun, and some videos/photos for social media. I know the Air 3 has better video, flies longer, and deals with wind better. But the Mini 4 Pro is smaller, lighter, and easier to pack when traveling—and it has good features too.
What would you pick and why?
(By the way, I live in the EU. The drone rules here for C1 class aren’t too strict.)
I was stuck between the same two and went with the Mini 4 Pro Fly More. You just get way more for your money. If you get the Air 3, you’ll really want at least one more battery. That one battery won’t last long. The normal controller works fine, but the one with the screen (RC2) is way nicer, just for the brighter screen alone. Plus the Mini is under 250g so you can fly it in more places without getting in trouble when traveling.
One thing people forget is charging time. If you’re using a regular plug with a basic USB charger, it takes forever. I’d say go with the Mini 4 Pro Fly More. The batteries for that one are still pricey—like $95 each—but the Air 3 ones are even more expensive. I have both drones and barely use the Air 3. It’s heavier, noisier, and feels more like a work tool. The Mini 4 Pro is just easier in every way and cheaper overall.
I picked up the Air 3 recently (the regular version) with the RC-N2 for €640, and added a second battery for €110. It’s a big upgrade from my old Mavic 1. The image quality is way better, and flight time is almost double—about 40 minutes instead of 20. You do have to register it, but yeah, the Mini is definitely smaller and easier to pack. Controllers are about the same though.
These two drones are just not in the same league. I like the Mini series and I’ve got one too, but if I had to choose just one, I’d always go for the Air 3 or 3S—even if it’s just the basic kit.
Here’s the deal:
I’m in the EU too, and it’s super common to head out to a nice place, ready to fly, and boom—it’s windy .
The Air 3 handles that like a champ. You won’t be stressing over the weather—you just fly and enjoy it.
