Hey folks! Just picked up a DJI Mini 3 and I can’t get the controller to find my location. WiFi is connected and I’ve poked through the settings but nothing jumps out. Anyone know what could be causing this?
If your WiFi is on, it’s likely just connected to your home router — not the drone. Try switching WiFi off. These drones do use WiFi but kind of behind the scenes.

Turn the WiFi off? I’ve tried toggling it and then linking through the drone. It works totally fine using DJI Fly on my phone, but the remote itself is being a pain.
@Frost
Which remote are you using? RC1? RC2?
Honestly not sure — it has a screen though. Just got it today if that helps.

Does it have two antennas above the screen?
@Ren
Nope, no antennas.

Ah, that’s the RC1 then. I’ve got the same one linked to my Mini 3 Pro. If it’s seeing your drone and satellites, and WiFi is off, you should eventually get a ‘home point updated’ message. It just takes a little time. The WiFi behavior took me a bit to figure out too. If your phone’s nearby and still linked, that could be messing things up.
@Ren
Yeah it’s messing with my head because if I use the phone it works, but the controller itself refuses. Can’t use Return to Home and it just says ‘no GPSS’ in the top corner while flying. I was excited for a screen controller and now it’s just giving me headaches.
@Frost
Try turning your phone completely off and then link the controller. It’s a bit finicky, but once you get it working, that controller really is great!

Still stuck with this!
Strange that it’s not picking up satellites — that’s how it usually gets your location. Have you checked for firmware updates on the RC1? And do you know if this controller was used with another drone before you got it?
@Ren
All good man — it’s brand new, I’m the first owner. Tried checking for updates but there weren’t any. Still no idea what’s going on.
