@Ashton
But they did exactly that with the Action 5, and it was clearly a downgrade.
@Ashton
So we’re just ignoring what happened with the Action 5, huh?
Seems like the person complaining doesn’t really understand bitrate but came here to rant about it anyway.

And here you are defending DJI when they did the same thing with the Action 5, and it was a mess. You gotta look at the history here.
Saying they ‘ripped us off’ feels a bit harsh. Engineering is all about trade-offs. If they dropped bitrate, it was likely to make room for other features like LIDAR. Let’s not jump to conclusions before giving them some credit for still innovating.
@Bowie
So we’re just supposed to be okay with downgrades? If we don’t push back, they’ll just keep doing it.

What exactly did they compromise on, though? I’m not seeing the crisis here.
I don’t get it. Some of the best 4K Blu-rays like ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ have an average bitrate of 80 Mbps, and they look stunning on my OLED TV. Why would you need 150 Mbps for 30 fps?
63 Mbps for 4K at 30 fps doesn’t seem bad, especially if you’re just hovering. What makes you feel ripped off?

Because people don’t know what they’re talking about.

Not everyone is ‘just hovering,’ though. It’s about having options. DJI has been saying they improved encoding, but we’ve seen this before with the Action 5.
Easy solution: if you don’t like the specs of the Air 3S, don’t buy it.

That’s the dumbest argument. It’s like saying we should ignore the issue and move on.

If ‘don’t like it, don’t buy it’ is a bad take, then I guess I have a bunch of weird stuff for sale you might be interested in. Seriously though, this argument just avoids the actual problem.
@Cade
Exactly. DJI practically has a monopoly on drones. If no one speaks up about downgrades, they’ll just keep cutting corners.

And the best way to show you’re unhappy is not to buy it. Complaining on forums doesn’t really change things.

That’s why I decided not to upgrade to the Air 3S from my 2S. I’ll probably wait for the Mavic 3 price to drop when the Mavic 4 comes out.

Companies do this all the time, not just DJI. Incremental upgrades are the name of the game. It’s up to you whether to buy into it.

Good username, suits your argument perfectly.
Then don’t buy it.
