DJI Left Me a Nice Message on My Returned Battery

Seems descriptive.

Had only one interaction with their customer service and liked it a lot—not with a drone though. Spent a day filming in the rain with their Osmo 6. When I came back to the hotel, I found that the device would no longer charge. I sent it back to DJI, explaining the circumstances and acknowledging possible water and physical damage. To my ultimate surprise, they said it was a warranty issue, fixed it with no charge, and even gifted a portable lighting device for my troubles.

@Reese
Oh yeah, their customer service is great! I had no issues with either of the people I spoke with about the issues over the phone or on their site. I just thought the note was a little goofy. I don’t see why I would want to pay $70 for them to take my old battery to replace it with a new one when it might be ‘defective’ when I could purchase one for the same price and still get to keep mine as a backup.

I’ve never had to send anything to DJI. Are their repair ops US-based? (Assuming OP is in the US). Seems weird a Chinese company would write a note for other people in their repair shop in English.

My stuff got shipped back from Canada, afaik. I know the new drone did, at least.

@Eli
That’s good to know! Did you have to ship to China? I always wondered about shipping to China if I had to use DJI care, especially with how things are going now.

Nope, it shipped to Canada.

@Eli
Can confirm. Mine went to Ontario for warranty. No notes or secret videos, just stellar customer service.

Ontario, CA? I ask because there is an Ontario, California that Chinese companies use to route items through. So it’s technically a US shipping point, but everything goes straight to or from China. It’s a mid-man stopping point, basically, so you believe it’s US-based. I’ve seen this with eBay items and such. I always try to avoid it.

@Val
Ontario, Canada. I’m in Alberta. It was back in my hands way too fast for it to have trans-shipped or gone to China after getting there.

Gotcha. Interesting! I wasn’t sure how DJI was going to handle shipments of replacements due to all the shipments I’ve seen stopped recently.

They have 1 repair centre in Canada and 3 in the US. If you are based in the US and have one of those drones, like Mini or Neo, it will be shipped to and repaired at their repair centre in Kentucky. There’s one in Mississauga, Canada.

Crashed my Mavic 3 in DTLA since I did RTH at night when the sensors couldn’t see. It ended up hitting one of the windows of the Graffiti Tower on the way back and it was in pieces. Did the RMA process and shipped it the same day. I got it back a day and a half later; I was pretty impressed. The replacement seemed to be a completely new drone.

Europe is serviced through Amsterdam and the service is genuinely incredible.

They also have a place in France, which I believe is taking over this operation. And also one in Nottingham for what I assume is Brexit-related reasons.

It happens, and those stickers aren’t always reliable anyway. I had a brand new cellphone with a pink sticker; the customer service rep noticed it during activation and gave me a different phone. Nothing wrong with the first, but that sticker meant no sale.

@Winslow
How did they notice it during activation? Those stickers are inside the phone. Even during the days of removable backs on phones, I’ve never seen one visible without actually taking the phone apart.

@Winslow
On older iPhone models, there were stickers in the charging port. They could assess instantly with a flashlight.

Wow, bro, crazy man! Cheers.

A bit petty, but what do you expect these days?
