DJI Mini 3 vs Mini 3 Pro Range

Hey everyone,

I just got the Mini 3 with the Fly More combo because the store said the only differences between it and the Mini 3 Pro are Active Tracking, Obstacle Avoidance, and a better camera. They said both have the same range. But I found blogs saying the Mini 3 Pro has an 18km range, while the Mini 3 has 12km. DJI’s website says they have the same range.

I am confused. Can anyone explain the actual range of these drones? My parents live 1.6 miles away, and I want to know if it is safe to fly there and if the battery will last.

Also, did I make the right choice with the Mini 3 Fly More combo instead of the Mini 3 Pro? I can still return/exchange it. Thanks!

The DJI Mini 3 and DJI Mini 3 Pro have a maximum flight distance of 18 km (with the Intelligent Flight Battery and measured when flying at 43.2 kph in windless conditions) and 25 km (with the Intelligent Flight Battery Plus).

Be aware that the DJI Mini 3 Intelligent Flight Battery Plus is only available in certain countries and regions.

DJI Mini 3 Pro allows recording in the H.265 video codec, producing more data-rich video than the Mini 3. If you want the highest image quality available from a Mini drone, the DJI Mini 3 Pro is the only one that supports H.265.

The DJI Mini 3 and Mini 3 Pro both have a maximum transmission range of 12 kilometers according to DJI’s official specifications, which should comfortably cover the 1.6-mile distance to your parents’ home. The Mini 3 Pro offers additional features like Active Tracking, Obstacle Avoidance, and a better camera compared to the Mini 3, which may be beneficial for more advanced flying and filming scenarios. If these features are important to you and you foresee using them, exchanging for the Mini 3 Pro could be worthwhile despite the slightly higher reported range of the Mini 3 Pro in some sources. However, if you’re satisfied with the value and accessories included in the Mini 3 Fly More combo and don’t necessarily need the extra capabilities, keeping it would also be a reasonable choice.
