So, I’m really enjoying my Mini 4 Pro, but I’ve noticed the range isn’t great. It’s not anywhere near what’s advertised or what I’ve seen on YouTube. I’m in a suburban area and struggle to go beyond 3000 feet. I was hoping to explore things a few miles away from my place, but I just can’t seem to fly that far. Anyone else having the same issue? Am I missing something here, or is this not normal?
You’re not allowed to fly that far legally, so maybe your drone is just protecting you from breaking the rules.
@TIMOO A drone that doesn’t work right is ‘protecting’ him? Doesn’t seem like it works that way to me.
I saw someone post once about how they were pointing their antennas in the wrong direction and complained about the range
@Brooklyn Nope, my antennas are definitely pointed at the drone lol.
@Kimberly Check the manual. One should be pointing up and one down, angled just right.
@Brooklyn Interesting! I’ll check that out, thanks for actually being helpful.
@Kimberly Exactly like the manual shows?
@Brooklyn I’ll look into it.
@Kimberly Did that fix the issue?
@EthanSkyWhisper Not sure yet. Haven’t tested it again, just flying casually for now.
@Kimberly You need a clear line of sight to the drone. I get about 3km with my Mini 1 in an urban area, and it’s advertised for 4km. I live on a hill, so I always have that clear line. Try flying from somewhere high or fly the drone higher to keep it in sight when it’s far away.
@Kimberly Late to the thread, but for anyone reading this: the signal comes from the flat sides of the antennas. It’s strongest outward, and weaker right above.
Maybe your expectations are a bit high. Think about how far your phone’s Wi-Fi reaches from your house. Your drone uses Wi-Fi too, and in a place full of interference, getting that far is pretty impressive for DJI.
@Okie Old post, but I tested and got 4 miles with the Mini 4 Pro. It’s amazing tech.
@JohnCurtiui Wait, 4 miles? What kind of area were you flying in?
@Kimberly Over water, and I launched from a balcony 300 feet up.
@JohnCurtiui Ah, that explains it lol.
You can keep line of sight at 3000 feet? I must be blind as a bat.
@Aisha Haha, yep, got 20/20 vision
