DJI Mini 4K vs DJI Neo, which one should I get?

So like the title says, I need help deciding between these two drones. This’ll be my first real drone. I had some toy drones before, like the DJI Tello a while ago.

I’m comfortable with controllers since I game a lot, but here’s my dilemma:

I like the long flight time on the Mini 4K, but I’m drawn to the Neo’s extra features like follow-me and dronie mode. However, the Neo’s battery life is so short… is it even practical? I just want to fly for fun, and I’m not too picky about video quality since both can shoot in 4K anyway.

Any advice would be appreciated!

If you want a quick, fun drone for selfies and short shots, go with the Neo. But if you’re looking for longer flights and more direct control, the Mini 4K is better for that.

Neo’s got a lot of issues right now. It’s fun but not very reliable, and the battery life is terrible—about 10 minutes tops. You’ll spend more time charging than flying.

The camera’s also not great. Even though it’s 4K, it’s not as sharp as the Mini 4K. Forget night flying, too—once the sun’s down, you’re done.

If you’re serious about the Neo, get the Fly More combo for extra batteries and faster charging. But if you want better video quality, Mini 4K’s a safer bet.

Thanks for the input! Leaning toward the Mini 4K now. The Neo’s battery situation sounds annoying. I was thinking about the Mini 4 Pro too, but it’s pricey, and I’d hate to crash something that expensive as a beginner.

Plus, it’s been a while since the Mini 4 Pro launched, so I keep wondering if a Mini 5 Pro is around the corner. Might be worth waiting if I’m spending that much, you know?

@Dev
The Mini 4 Pro’s about triple the price of the Mini 4K and Neo, but it’s on another level—camera quality and features are amazing. No regrets from anyone I know who’s bought it.

And by the way, the Mini 4K does have modes like dronie, rocket, circle, helix, and boomerang. The only big thing it’s missing is follow-me, which honestly, can be a bit of a gimmick. If you’re not going super fast, it’s okay, but half the time it loses track if I pedal too hard on my bike. Neo definitely needs more updates to make it smoother.

@Robin
Good point! Follow-me does sound a little gimmicky when you put it that way, plus with the limitations.

I think I’ll go for the 4K as my starter drone—it’s less stress if I crash it, and I can get better with it. By the time I’m ready to upgrade, the Mini 5 might be out!

Still, one thought… wouldn’t the sensors on the Mini 4 Pro help prevent crashes? Could save me money in the long run, right? These decisions are tough!

@Robin
Actually, it does have follow-me. I was able to use it with my scooter, and it kept up pretty well!

The DJI Mini 4 Pro. My friend also uses it for his scooter videos, and it follows pretty well.

The Neo’s tricky. It’s either DJI’s worst or best, depending on what you need.

If you want a super portable drone that can follow you while you hike, bike, or run, the Neo’s perfect. But if you want more stability and a better camera, especially in windy conditions, it falls short.

If you’re not fussed about video quality, the DJI Neo can be enough and is actually pretty fun!
