DJI’s response to low bitrate on Osmo Action 5 Pro. Anyone else frustrated?

Just like always, DJI doesn’t give us the option to change the bitrate on the Osmo Action 5 Pro, and it’s so annoying. The footage looks low quality, and zooming in post-edit makes it even worse. I’d much rather deal with shorter battery life than have my 4K footage look all compressed. Why can’t they just hide a custom bitrate option in the Pro settings? We’re already stuck with 4K instead of 5.3K, and now the bitrate is low too? This is just stupid.

Bought the Action 5 after watching a bunch of reviews, but noticed some muddy footage compared to GoPro. Might return it if no fix comes out.

Same here. I’m going to use the 14-day return window and test it myself. If it doesn’t look good, back it goes.

Can you share some raw footage? Would love to see how it looks straight from the camera.

Sure thing, I’ll upload when I get it.

I’ll post some footage once mine arrives.

I’m in the same boat. Surprised no reviews mentioned it. Shows how reliable some YouTube reviews are.

You wouldn’t get it… you’re not a pro.

The night mode on Action 5 still doesn’t seem as good as the Ace Pro, even with the latest updates. DJI might catch up with firmware updates, but it’s not quite there yet.

Action 5 is better than Action 4 and GoPro Hero 13, but still falls short of Ace Pro, especially in low light. Overall, Action 5 Pro might still be the better package for most users.

Action 5 Pro uses HEVC, which means it needs less bitrate compared to older cameras like Action 4 using H.264 to get similar quality.

Action 4 also used HEVC and still had a higher bitrate than Action 5 Pro. The low bitrate on Action 5 is just not okay for a ‘Pro’ camera.

Was the 130 mbps on Action 4 only with H.264, or did HEVC also hit that number?

Not convinced by that explanation yet.

What exactly is the bitrate on this thing?

Are they planning to release a regular Action 5? Not everyone needs the ‘Pro’ version.

Shoot the same scene on Action 4 and Action 5 and compare. I bet Action 5 still looks better.

Nope, not really.
