Does the Neo have issues with going out of control?

My Neo+RC-N3 remote lost control a few days ago—pitched right, hit a tree, then slammed into a building. Amazingly, the drone survived intact—it’s incredibly sturdy. It happened about a quarter mile away, no obstructions, plenty of satellites, and 20m up over a riverbank I’ve flown over multiple times. I did get a wind warning earlier at a higher altitude but no issues controlling it when I lowered it to 20m.

This incident really shook my confidence. I’m wondering how common this is and if I should change my approach to flying it.

I’ve seen others mention similar problems, especially with the RC-N3 remote since the last firmware update. Is this widespread, or should I not worry about it happening again? I’d love to hear from other Neo owners (no interest in hearing from people calling it “cheap” or “barely flyable”).

I don’t own a Neo, but I was considering one until I noticed several Reddit posts daily about Neo drones losing control.

This has happened to me twice with my Neo. Reviewing the flight logs, I noticed a pattern: first, a strong wind warning appears briefly, then the satellite count drops to zero, followed by a message about the gimbal reaching its endpoint. By then, the drone is already out of control.

Both times I was using the RC-N3 remote, and there was no actual wind present.

That’s the exact issue.

DJI has gone quiet on this. Normally, they comment on posts like these.

Thanks for sharing. Were these incidents before or after the recent firmware updates?

Both happened after the latest firmware updates for both the drone and the RC-N3.

@Dallas
Sounds like the firmware might be the issue. I’ll check my logs more thoroughly when I get home. I can retrace my route in the app, but I think there’s more to analyze.

Let’s hope it’s not a hardware problem and can be resolved with a firmware fix. Fingers crossed for an update soon!

DJI is unusually quiet about this—they normally comment on these issues.

They responded last time when Mr. ‘I make my own line-of-sight rules’ posted about this.

Actually, it’s more like ‘the FAA doesn’t understand what “line of sight” means and the rules are dumb/impossible/ignored by everyone.’

@Mai
Hush, child. I wasn’t talking to you.

Just FYI, this is a public forum.

@Mai
The FAA knows what line of sight means. The rules are there to protect everyone. Could you explain why you find them impossible or dumb?

Yes, it does have this issue.

I’ve never had a problem. I’ve only flown the Neo manually with goggles and haven’t used normal or sport modes except for takeoff and landing.

I’ve had an issue twice with file system errors on internal storage (not SD cards). DJI replaced my drone, but the same thing happened again. Formatting resolves it temporarily, but you lose all your footage.

It’s a known problem with drones with ducted props. If the drone moves sideways quickly, the ducts can block airflow, causing a prop stall.
