I’m planning to get my first drone soon (thinking of the Mavic Pro 2) and want to make sure it’s properly insured. I’m interested in covering both potential damage to other things and to the drone itself. Is there a specific kind of insurance I should look for, or would my renter’s insurance cover this?
Also, if I crash, would I need a separate plan to cover a replacement? I’m new to drones and want to avoid learning the hard way if something happens. Any advice would be appreciated!
I’m in the US and use Verifly for on-demand commercial liability insurance. For me, it’s about $10 per hour for a $1M policy when I need it.
I also use DJI Care for crash coverage to protect the equipment itself, but I don’t get specific damage insurance for the drone unless it’s required. I got a quote for full commercial coverage at around $3k annually, so I stick to Verifly as I only need it monthly. It’d be interesting to hear what others are paying and which providers they use.
Renter’s insurance almost definitely won’t cover your drone.
Front Row is developing a drone insurance option, though it’s still in progress. They might be able to arrange a custom policy for you—try reaching out to them: https://www.frontrowinsurance.com/contact-us
