My dad had a stroke and can’t use his right hand or right side of his body. I think he’s been a bit bored, so I want to get him a fun gift to cheer him up. Most drone controllers seem to require two hands, but I’m wondering if there are options for one-handed control. Ideally, something like a joystick for forward, backward, left, and right, with separate buttons for altitude.
If there’s a way to modify a regular controller to work with one hand, I’d love to hear about it. I’d prefer to start with something in the lower price range since I imagine there will be some crashes at first. Any recommendations would be really appreciated!
You might want to check out drone forums or guides for specific recommendations. A lot of people have asked about custom setups for unique situations like this, so there might be resources out there to help.
The DJI Motion Controller, paired with a DJI Avata or DJI FPV drone, is probably the best option. It’s specifically designed for one-handed use and is beginner-friendly.

This is a great suggestion. The motion controller is simple and intuitive.

Completely agree. The motion controller is exactly what I was going to recommend.
Does he get around easily? If so, the follow-me mode on the DJI Neo might be a good option. Otherwise, the motion controller with the DJI Avata is your best bet.
People with limited mobility have said the DJI Motion Controller works incredibly well for them. It’s likely the best one-handed option out there right now.
