Drones with enough battery to inspect a 100-acre fence? Any suggestions?

Hey, I need to inspect my 100-acre fence and won’t be flying higher than 5-6 feet off the ground. What drone would be best for this? Looking for one with good battery life and range.

You could probably use one of the newer DJI drones with a few batteries. If your land is a square, each side is around 2,100 feet, so it’s doable. You’ll just need multiple flights and battery changes. I suggest recording the video and watching it after since hovering too long can drain the battery fast. Might not be perfect math, but it should work!

@Zion
You’re overthinking it. A 100-acre square is about 2.5 km around. You could probably do it with one battery.

The Mavic 3 should handle it easily.

Same goes for the Air 3. Unless you fly super slow, one battery should be enough.

@Shawn
I regularly get 35 minutes on my Air 3. You could do a few laps around 100 acres in that time.

Get a drone with waypoint capability, and you can automate it for future inspections.

I think my Air 2S could do this on one battery too.

Even the original Mini could do it depending on how detailed you want to get.

Yep, the Mini can handle this easily too.

@Zion
Watching the video on a big screen after the flight will help you catch more details.

Can you hook up these drones to a big TV? No experience, just curious.

Most drones record to MicroSD, which is easy to play on modern TVs.

If the distance calculations are right, you could easily do this with a Mini 3 or 4 in one battery. With waypoint missions, you wouldn’t even need to actively fly it.

Exactly. He could watch the whole thing on TV while the drone does all the work.

Yes, it’s possible. DJI drones have remotes that can output video. I use a 4K monitor with my Mini 4 for live viewing. You just need the right cables and a power source for the monitor. You can also use a tablet or phone and screencast the live feed to your TV. There are some tricks to it, but it’s definitely doable.

Not sure about live feed directly to a TV, but there are ways to broadcast live streams.

Here’s a link to DJI’s livestreaming info that might help:

Here’s a quick video breaking down the math on this link.

Someone already did the math here… classic!
