I’m in Italy and want to fly my 249g mini drone. I’ve already registered with the D-Flight app, but now I need insurance and a QR code. Can anyone recommend an affordable insurance provider that covers Europe, mainly Italy, and meets the minimum legal requirements? Any advice would be appreciated!
Hi! I used an insurance option through Dronezine, an online magazine. It cost about €30, though I later found another for around €20 annually:
- Dronext – Cheapest option, and their website is also available in English.
- Dronezine Insurance – A collective insurance that comes as a bonus with their magazine subscription (which is free).
For the QR code, you’ll need to recharge your account on the D-Flight website with their “coins,” then buy the QR code and attach it to your drone and remote.
@Blake
Thanks, I’ll check it out later!

Thanks for the detailed info! I found a monthly insurance option that was very affordable.

Old post, but could you share which provider it was?

The company was Coverdrone.

Could you share the website link? Is this insurance valid across Europe?
Is this a new requirement? I’m Canadian and brought my DJI Mini 3 Pro to Italy last September, and I had no issues flying it.

I’m from Canada too! Did you buy the drone in Italy, or did you bring it from Canada? I have a trip planned soon.
@Sam
I bought it in Canada.
Did you get any insurance specifically for flying in Europe?
I didn’t need insurance to fly while I was there.

Did you need to register it? Were there any questions at immigration about the drone?
@Sam
I had to register in certain areas when launching, but nothing was asked at immigration. My flight went from Canada to Germany to Italy with no issues.
