Firefighter here, any tips for using drones in emergencies?

I’m a firefighter in a European country and I’d like to learn how to use my drone in emergency situations like disasters, public safety, and similar scenarios. Does anyone know of good resources or online courses about this? Any tips or advice would be great.

I’m open to materials in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, and German. Also, I have A1, A2, and A3 certificates, and I use a DJI MATRICE 30 T drone.

Here’s what I suggest from the USA: Take a thermography class, as it’s likely one of the most important skills you’ll use. Look into dropper devices for specific scenarios. For search and rescue operations, check out ‘Norwegian Police Drone Search Techniques in SAR Operations.’ If you’re interested in mapping and scene reconstruction, photogrammetry tools like PIX4Dreact and Nova are worth exploring. Some fire departments use FPV drones to inspect compromised structures, but keep in mind that most drones aren’t water-resistant like the M30T, so cleaning them can be tricky.

Great advice, thanks a lot!

You should join iedo. They have useful discussions and resources.

Thanks for the suggestion!

If you’re near water, consider a drone that can drop flotation devices to assist in rescues.

I live near a river and the sea, so we’ve already been looking into that. Thanks for the tip!

Drones are great for quick deployment and ‘eye in the sky’ capabilities. For example, if a kid is lost in the woods, you can launch a drone quickly and use thermal imaging to scan a large area. Once you spot something, you can guide your team on the ground. We also use drones for perimeter security and evidence recording. Just keep in mind, they’re a tool, not a replacement for a ground team.

@Mori
That’s exactly the kind of use I’m interested in. Thanks for the input!
