Flying drones over wildfires … why is this still happening?

Oh, they’re here. Lots of ‘drone police’ types love hanging out in these forums.

Yep, so true!

It’s like people reminding others to turn on their headlights in the rain. It probably won’t change anything, but they’ll keep posting about it.

Checked his profile … he already deleted the photos.

What a clown.

This feels like one of those times when the FAA will move quickly to punish him.

As a firebomber pilot and drone operator, people like this make our jobs so much more dangerous. Totally unacceptable.

There was also a presidential TFR in effect at the time.

Flying a drone with a lipo battery during a red flag warning is just another layer of stupid.

Are there actually rules about that, or is it just common sense?

Not a rule, but lipo batteries can burst into flames if they crash. When everything is dry, it’s just asking for trouble.

It’s not a legal restriction, but it’s definitely a bad idea during fire season.

Idiots like this ruin it for everyone.

Should we do something? Reporting to Instagram doesn’t seem like it’ll do much. Maybe send his posts to local authorities?

Just report him. No need for threats.

Your best bet is to contact the FAA regional office near Los Angeles. If they get enough complaints, they’ll look into it.

Report to the FAA, not Meta. Meta won’t do much besides maybe taking the post down.
