I’m heading to Florida on Wednesday with my new DJI Neo, which is under 250g. I’ve got the Trust certificate, but I’m not sure if I can just rely on the Air Aware app to know where I can fly. I’m mostly looking to do quick shots like orbits.
I’ve heard some places owned by the county don’t allow flying. Does any app show that, or is there another way to check? It’s tricky as a foreigner to figure this out without the app.
The apps show airspace rules, but not land use rules. For example, you might be allowed to fly over a state park but not allowed to launch or control the drone from within it. You’ll have to look up each place you plan to fly.
@vene I fly all the time at west coast Florida beaches. I use DJI Fly for no-fly zone info and check for any local signs. I’ve never had a problem as long as I stay away from people.
@vene Tampa Bay’s Gulf side is usually good unless you’re in state parks. Just be careful near the bay because of the airports, ports, and military bases.
Most cities and counties have their ordinances on their websites. You’ll need to search through them to see if there are any specific laws about drones.
