General Liability Photography AND Drone Insurance?

Hey all, newbie question about insurance. I’m being hired for a real estate photography job, which might include drone shots. The contract requires standard general liability insurance of $1 million per occurrence, $2 million aggregate. I found some policies specifically for photographers (like PPA, Thimble, Hill and Usher), but these don’t cover drone activities. It seems like I’ll need a separate liability policy just for the drone.

I’m wondering if there’s a single policy out there that can cover all my photography and drone work, but so far, I haven’t found one.

Has anyone else dealt with this? What did you end up doing for drone coverage? Any recommendations?

Check out SkyWatch.

SkyWatch can be a bit pricey, depending on a few factors, but it’s super easy to set up, and you can customize your coverage. That’s why I use it.

I’m just starting out, so hourly coverage makes the most sense for me.

Hill and Usher has a policy called Aerial Pak for drone liability. I’ve been using it for over 10 years.

That’s super helpful, thank you!

Are you Part 107 certified for commercial drone use? Liability insurers might require you to have that, based on FAA regulations.

Yes, I am 107 certified.

I went with Package Choice through Hill and Usher, which uses Hartford for the policy. They were my general insurance provider, and a few years back, they started letting me add drone coverage. It was easy to set up over email, and I’ve been using them for the past two years. They cover drone work as long as it’s not a major part of the business.

@Brett
They even covered a crash I had with my Mavic 3, minus the $500 deductible.

I’m curious about the cost of daily drone insurance and basic business insurance. Can anyone give me a rough idea? I have Amica for home and auto, but they don’t cover businesses that use drones. Just exploring options and would appreciate any advice. Planning to check out SkyWatch and Hill and Usher this week.

I’ve been flying since 2011 and hold a Part 107 license.

I ended up getting a policy through Hill and Usher that covers general liability, and it’s $102 a month. Pretty satisfied after looking around for a while.
