Has anyone actually been killed by a drone under 250g?

Millions of sub-250g drones are sold in the US each year. Has there ever been a confirmed case where one caused a fatality?

Curious to hear what data is out there. Thanks!

1-2.5 million per month.

That seems high. Maybe that’s the number of injuries per month?

Huuuuuuh

My entire family was maimed by a swarm of rogue sub-250g drones. No deaths, but everyone lost at least three limbs. Must not have been registered pilots…

Now picturing a Mini swarm approaching with Ride of the Valkyries playing—on kazoos.

Imagine hundreds of tiny whoops chasing people down.

Oh, millions.

Especially in Massachusetts, where they exclusively target tax evaders.

I’ve never heard of a single civilian death from a consumer drone, let alone a Mini. The only way I can imagine it happening is a freak accident—maybe a direct hit to the temple.

I haven’t met anyone who weighs less than 250g.

Right? I was thinking the same thing lol.

Sub-250g drones are the new Lawn Darts.

Are we factoring in the butterfly effect? :joy:

Or Kessler Syndrome?

That could actually cancel itself out. Probably best to call it a wash.

Mine might kill me one day. The little bruises are adding up, and my friends are starting to ask questions. I know it’s my fault.

Does this count?

I can’t find a single confirmed case where a drone impact directly caused a death in the US.

A sub-250g drone killing someone would be incredibly rare. It would take a very unusual accident.

They can definitely cause injuries—there are some gnarly ones—but as far as I know, there are zero recorded deaths from a Mini-class drone, anywhere.

Even in cases where drones have hit aircraft, no fatalities have ever been recorded.

@Luca
That’s surprising. Every time I post about flying more than 200 feet away, people flood in telling me how deadly that is—like it’s guaranteed to take out a baby, explode, and bring down a helicopter all at once.

@Nico
You can believe it or not, but the data is there ¯\(ツ)

It would take an extremely unlucky series of events to make a Mini drone fatal.

If you’re curious, here’s a list of every major drone-related accident, including larger drones hitting vehicles:
