I’m looking to buy a DJI drone as a gift for my wife. There’s no specific purpose in mind – mostly just casual use like family outings, vacations, or capturing nice views when we’re outdoors. Neither of us has owned a drone before, so we’re both complete beginners.
I’ve been looking at a few models and I’m torn between the DJI Mini 3, DJI Mini 4K, and the new DJI Flip. Each one seems to have its own pros and cons, but I’m not sure which would be best for someone who’s just getting into drones and wants something easy to use with good image quality.
For context, we’re based in Quebec, so the weather can get pretty cold and windy—does that impact which drone we should go for?
Any recommendations or insights on which one might be best for a beginner and casual user?
I’d say a Flip, it has 3 ways to fly and control it. Via hands, phone or controller. The hand launch option pretty much offers all the drone shots you’d want to capture, perfect for beginners. You can also connect it via phone to change settings. Then when you want to practice flying with a remote, it includes that too. Lastly, it comes with built-in propeller guards. Just a tip, start low/medium height and distance first to get a feel of everything, and only when you gain that confidence and weather is stable, that’s when you really test it out. The follow mode for the Flip is pretty fun too. Get DJI Care Refresh for any drone you get.
I’m a big 4K fan boy. I have an Air 3 and 4 Pro also but I use the hell out of my 4K daily. I think starting with it makes you a better pilot since you kinda learn the hard way without all the sensors helping avoid things. Tho that flip is new new and full of cool features. Can’t go wrong with any DJI stuff IMO . She will love any of them
