this thread discusses a hotline for reporting drone operations that violate tfrs. violations can cause serious consequences, such as grounding emergency aircraft or endangering lives. you can report incidents to the faa at 866-835-5322.
i’m not a drone police type, but some things i’ve seen in southern california are definitely report-worthy.

there’s a difference between a skilled pilot momentarily going bvlos for a specific purpose and the recklessness of others, especially when someone hits a firefighting airplane. some discernment is important here.
@West
rules exist for a reason. breaking them, no matter the intent, invites more restrictions for everyone.

so you’ve never driven a mile over the speed limit?

i generally follow speed limits unless conditions make it unsafe not to. as a flight instructor, i’m well-versed in uav rules, and they exist for good reasons.
@Davin
rules are fine until they’re inconvenient for you, right?

driving too slowly in traffic can also be illegal, but understanding context matters.

that’s a different issue entirely. let’s focus on the actual topic—drone regulations.
@West
enforcement is key to compliance. education matters, too.

violations that endanger lives deserve to be reported. anything else is noise.
@Hadden
agreed. the reckless actions some take are unacceptable.
report violations here: faa reporting page.
this forum seems split between those who strictly follow the rules and those who disregard them entirely.

emergency tfrs are non-negotiable. it’s concerning that even simple rules can’t be followed.

rules aren’t suggestions. the aviation community enforces them for safety, and violators should face consequences.
why report violations?
- violators risk lives and hinder emergency efforts.
- unchecked violations give drones a bad reputation, leading to stricter regulations for everyone.
calling the faa isn’t my usual approach, but downing a firefighting plane is too serious to ignore.
where’s the humor? this forum takes things way too seriously.

anyone flying in tfrs and endangering lives deserves to be reported.
