Hey everyone! I’m looking at the HoverAir X1 as a non-DJI option, especially since I want something small and easy to use for basic videos and selfies. It seems similar to the DJI Mini 2SE, but it’s slightly pricier. Has anyone here tried the HoverAir X1? Would love to know if it’s worth it compared to the Mini 2SE. Any thoughts?
I’ve tried the HoverAir X1! It’s super easy to carry around and launches right from your hand, which is pretty cool. But don’t expect a long flight time…it only flies for about 11 minutes.

Oh, only 11 minutes? That seems a bit short. Is that enough for capturing anything decent?
@Reese
It’s okay for short clips and selfies, but yeah, it’s not enough if you’re hoping for more extensive shots. It’s really more of a quick-use, on-the-go type of drone.
Honestly, for a few bucks less, the DJI Mini 2SE might be a better deal. Longer flight time (around 30 mins) and can go way farther than the HoverAir X1. Plus, the Mini comes with a controller, so it’s easier to control.
One thing to note about the HoverAir X1 is that it has no GPS, so it’s limited to following you at a short distance. It’s great for controlled environments, but if you need something more powerful outdoors, I’d go for the DJI Mini 2SE.
@Quin
That’s true, the Mini does sound better for distance. I was drawn to the HoverAir X1 because of the sound recording feature. Does the DJI Mini 2SE have anything like that?

Nope, the Mini 2SE doesn’t record sound. The HoverAir uses your phone’s mic to record audio, so it syncs voices with the footage (without the loud propeller noise). Kind of a unique feature!
@Ash
So it can’t do those big, sweeping shots that are typical with drones?

Exactly. It’s more like a ‘selfie drone’ with preset flight modes, not really built for pro-level shots. You can still do things like orbit or bird’s eye views, but it’s pretty basic.

Good to know! I was looking for something with that sweeping shot ability.
If you’re just looking for something super lightweight, the HoverAir X1 is barely 128g. Doesn’t need FAA registration if you’re in the US and it’s super portable. But you’ll be sacrificing some features for that convenience.
@Lennon
That’s actually a big plus for me. I hate dealing with registration and all the setup!
@Lennon
Yeah, it sounds like a great option if you’re just doing basic stuff and want a quick, easy drone to carry around.
I’ve seen people call the HoverAir X1 more of an ‘advanced selfie stick’ than a true drone lol. The quality isn’t bad, though, for posting quick videos online.

Haha, that’s a good way to put it! Seems like it would be great for vloggers or casual users who just want some quick shots without fuss.

For sure. Don’t expect pro drone shots, but for selfies and vlogs, it’s perfect.
Just a heads up — the HoverAir X1’s internal storage is only 32GB with no microSD option. Not a big deal for short videos, but something to think about if you record a lot.

Yeah, 32GB fills up fast if you’re recording in high quality. DJI Mini 2SE has expandable storage, which is a big plus.
