How bad is this damage really…?

Long time lurker here, appreciate whole community. Finally pulled trigger last month, bought DJI Mini 4K (<1 month). younger brother crashed today, damage to one rotor/leg as showed in photos. No warranty, no protection plan. Please guide me regarding expected repair cost and process. Help out a fellow drone-amateur & -enthusiast. Thank you in advance.

That’s one of those parts where if it fails mid-flight, it’s gonna be ugly. I’d replace it for sure, just to be safe.

Does the drone show any error when you try to fly it?

If not, you might still be able to use DJI Refresh. They usually only check for gimbal issues and flight errors, not cosmetic damage.

When I had something like this happen after my drone hit a tree, DJI charged me like a dollar per arm and a small labor fee. There’s a price list on their site if you wanna check.

Yeah, looks like the service charge these days is about $60, just FYI.

Been there done that. I crashed my Mavic 3 Pro a week after I got it. No refresh care but mine had over 7 pages of the damage report. Never did find all of the camera. I sent it to DJI on a Monday morning and got a the damage report the same day at night. Paid around $130 USD or just under 1000 RMB for repairs. Got it back Friday afternoon same week and went back to the retail store I bought it from. Made a video of the drone flying and gave the damage report to the retail store. Paid for 2 years of Refresh Care and walked out with a brand new out of the box replacement. At least your motor is still attached. I sifted mine through a tree :deciduous_tree: but it was the 100 foot drop on some nice soft concrete which had the drone doing cartwheels with pieces flying off of it.. Totally my fault and ignored all the warnings. I’m the classic example of when to refuse a refresh care call let alone they let me purchase the Refresh Care after I already crashed it. You may want to try and get the refresh care too.

If your brother won’t help pay, maybe sell something of his on eBay lol. But seriously, don’t try to fly it right now—it’s likely unstable since it looks like only the wire and mesh are holding that arm in place.

“Extensive”

You might need to amputate :grimacing:

Same thing happened to me. I got the replacement arm from AliExpress for 10 euros. Took me like 30 minutes to fix it with a screwdriver and a soldering iron.

Honestly, it doesn’t look too awful. You’ve got options:

  • Use some plastic JB Weld
  • 3D print a new arm and swap the electronics
  • Send it to DJI. Out-of-warranty repair might only cost around $50.
