How do you set up timecode on the DJI Osmo Action 5?

Hey, I’m trying to figure out how to set up timecode on my DJI Osmo Action 5 using a Deity PR-2. Anyone done this before and got some tips? I’m kinda stuck.

Yeah, I’ve done it! First, make sure you’ve got the right frame rate set on your camera. I was using 23.98fps on my Osmo when I tried.

Wait, so the frame rate in the menu isn’t the actual rate it’s recording at?

@Kameron
Yeah, it can be different. There’s a chart to convert the menu rates to the real capture rates. Check that!

Don’t forget to match the frame rate on your Deity PR-2. And make sure it’s in Free Run mode. That’s what you need for timecode syncing.

What’s Free Run mode? Not familiar with that term.

@Bao
Oh, Free Run is when the timecode runs continuously, even when the camera isn’t recording. Super useful when syncing multiple devices!

Got it! Thanks for the explanation!

Also, don’t forget to set the USB-C port to output timecode. It’s in the system settings on the Osmo. Easy to miss!

I always forget that step lol. Took me a few tries before I figured it out.

@Sloane
Haha, same. It’s one of those small things you can overlook.

Once you’ve connected the PR-2, the camera’s internal clock should sync automatically. But be ready to resync after a few hours, it doesn’t stay perfect.

Really? You have to resync during the day? That sounds kinda annoying.

@Azriel
Yeah, the clock drifts after a bit. You just have to connect the PR-2 again to reset it. No biggie, but something to keep in mind if you’re filming for a long time.

Once you’re all synced up, it should work great with the rest of your gear! Just make sure everything stays synced throughout the shoot.

Any tips for syncing the Deity TC-1 generators to each other? I’ve got a couple, and I’m not sure how to get them working together.

@Haru
There’s a guide for that! Check out the user manual, but basically, you just need to follow the same steps with each one. Once they’re all in Free Run mode, you should be good to go!

Sweet, thanks! I’ll give that a shot.
