How High Can Drones Actually Fly?

I just got into drones and was wondering how high they can really fly. I know there are rules like the 400 feet limit, but what about those cool drones that fly much higher? Is it possible to fly beyond that safely? Also, what kind of drones can actually reach crazy altitudes?

I think a lot of drones can actually fly higher than 400 feet, but only under specific conditions. I’ve read some can go up to 33,000 feet! But yeah, that’s not the norm. Most are capped at 400 feet due to safety regulations.

Totally agree with XYZ. You can reach crazy heights with the right drone, but it’s illegal to fly that high unless you have permission. I think commercial pilots can go over 400 feet if they’re near a structure, though.

I think night flying has the same altitude limit (400 feet) but you need those anti-collision lights, right? I’ve heard it helps make your drone visible at night.

Wait, so commercial drones can go over 400 feet if they’re near something? Is there a limit to how high they can go then? Like, could they reach 10,000 feet if they’re close to a big tower or something?

I’ve seen some drone specs saying they can go up to 33,000 feet in perfect conditions, but I don’t know anyone who has tested that. Seems like it’d be crazy to go that high without a commercial license or waiver.

How do people even get permission to go above 400 feet? Like, what’s the process for that? Seems like a lot of paperwork. :grimacing:

Just a heads up, make sure you’re flying in uncontrolled airspace too! It’s so easy to miss those restrictions, especially near airports.

So which drones actually reach the highest altitudes? I’m thinking about getting one for some aerial shots but I want the highest one available!

Has anyone actually flown at high altitudes? I’m curious about what it feels like up there. Is it just like a regular flight or does it feel different?

Can drones fly in space? :joy: Just kidding, but seriously, I wonder what would happen if a drone could reach that high.
