People are ruining things for everyone else with these stunts.

As if the people planning these events don’t have enough problems already.
That stat is misleading. They’re comparing early numbers to now, but the year-over-year growth has been more modest, around 11%. The big jump reflects the market growth for drones, not just illegal activities.
@Max
You’re right, it’s definitely exaggerated. But it still gets people talking.

It’s more about pushing for regulations and awareness than actual accuracy.

Or maybe just chasing clicks for ad revenue.

I think it’s just about selling more ads at this point.
@Max
The headline is misleading, but it’s still frustrating to see so many people ignoring the rules.
@Max
2800 flights over a season is about 10 per game. That’s a lot of illegal activity to track.
@Max
Even if the growth isn’t as dramatic as claimed, the numbers still show a serious issue. Hundreds of incidents each year pose a risk that needs addressing.

Drones were barely usable a decade ago. Now, with a small budget, anyone can buy one and cause trouble.
@Nuri
They’re talking about the number of sightings, not the quality of the drones themselves.
@Nuri
Just because a drone can fly doesn’t make it ‘airworthy.’ These drones aren’t built for safe operation in such spaces.

Do you even know what that word means?

Yes, the numbers are real, but framing it like this is misleading. Drones are new tech, so of course the early numbers were almost zero.

No one said it wasn’t an issue, just that the stat they’re using is designed to scare people. It’s worth asking how much of the increase is just regular hobbyists making mistakes versus actual threats.
This is why we can’t have nice things.
Drones are too easy to buy, and not everyone bothers to learn the rules before flying.
Just play all the games indoors. Problem solved.
