How to build a long range drone?

I have been watching YouTube videos where people talk about building drones that can fly over 3 km away. Has anyone here tried building something like that?

From what I gather, it boils down to a few key factors:

  1. Command signal: Ensuring the drone stays in communication with the ground control station. One solution is TBS Crossfire, which operates on a wavelength longer than 2.4 GHz.
  2. Using cloverleaf VTX and coil VRX antennas with high gain and horizontal alignment.
  3. Using a high-efficiency battery. Am I understanding this correctly? Any insights or tips would be appreciated!

To build something similar, you’ll need GPS for Return to Home (RTH). I used a Tarot Ironman 650 frame, Matek F722 SE flight controller, 800KV T-Motors, Matek Ublox GPS, a 6500mAh 4S battery, Aomway 1W VTX, and an R9 receiver.

Forget all that nonsense; just get a Parrot Disco and a 4G battery mod. It offers a range of 70-100 km, limited by the battery.
