Hey everyone! I’m super excited to kick off my new journey as a commercial drone pilot. Aviation has been my passion since I was a kid—started with Cox airplanes, moved up to building and flying RC planes back in the 90s, and even snagged my private pilot certificate in '98. I’ve flown a bit of helicopters too! I’ve found some awesome tips here for starting out as a drone pilot. Just curious, how’s the demand for commercial drone pilots in lower Michigan? It seems pretty strong across the US from what I’ve read. Appreciate any insights you might have!
Hey there, welcome to the forum! Excited to see more drone enthusiasts! Not sure about Michigan specifically, but it sounds like you’ve got a great background.
Welcome from Virginia! As for demand, it can really depend on the niche. Like, looking into real estate or agricultural work could help. You’ve got options!

Oh, that makes sense! I was thinking of exploring those areas. Just trying to figure out where the most demand is.
@Crosby
Yeah, totally! Just remember, winter can slow things down a lot in Michigan.
Hi! Just wanted to say congrats on your exciting new path! I think you’ll find a lot of opportunities once you get your certifications.
What’s the TRUST Certificate? I’ve seen it mentioned a lot.

It’s a certification you need to fly drones legally for recreational purposes. You can get it for free online! Super easy to go for.
I think the demand is pretty spotty depending on your area. Areas like Mason might not have as much demand compared to Detroit, just based on the market needs.

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. I’m mainly in the Detroit area, so hoping for more options there.
@Crosby
Definitely! Just keep an eye on local trends. Good luck!
