I’m a certified drone pilot now!

I work in cornfields, so there’s no flat surface. I use sections of plastic flooring for a stable platform—it’s more reliable.

Fair point. If you’re using a big drone, you need a solid surface to land on. I’d call that an airstrip, not just a pad!

@Sydney
I’ll need something soon for my FPV drone in the snow. Any ideas?

Try a regular tarp. Cheaper, bigger, and works for multiple purposes.

@Jem
I hand-catch my Phantoms and Mavics all the time. Never needed a pad.

Yeah, be careful! I tried to hand-catch my Mini 2 once, but a gust of wind pulled it out of reach. I grabbed it mid-air and, well… not doing that again.

@Roux
Just keep your hand flat under the drone and wait. Much safer!

I use mine if I’m taking off from grass.

I saw so many videos mentioning landing pads but figured ‘Hey, I’ve got hands for that!’ A landing pad doesn’t really help since it’s stuff in the air that could get sucked into the drone, not from the ground.

I’ll hand-catch my Mini 4 Pro, but I’d rather use a pad for my Air 3—it’s big enough to hurt. At the beach, I always use a landing pad to keep sand out of the motors.

I use mine at construction sites every time.

Congrats! That first time flying is a great feeling. I’ve been hooked for six months now!

Cool setup, but don’t you need to charge it too?

Nah, it’s powered by my neighbors’ rage :laughing:

Best answer ever :joy:

Add that to the long list of things I need to charge! Between my transmitter, goggles, phone, and all the batteries for my quads… I’m probably missing something!

@DroneDreamer4
Don’t forget the DMT vape for when you’re ready to fly with the third eye :joy:

Doesn’t it stop being a flat circle when the batteries die? :laughing:

My landing pad is the ground! Works fine as long as it’s dry.

What am I supposed to do when there’s snow everywhere with my big FPV quad?

Haha, I live in Texas, so no snow advice here! A landing pad or platform might be best if you’re dealing with snow.
