Just passed and officially a drone pilot now. Excited to get flying!
Congrats! You’ll need a yellow reflective vest too.

Get a hi-viz vest, and you can get away with anything but murder.

Confirmed true

Just make sure to keep it clean, though! I see a lot of folks in hi-vis who look, well, pretty rough.
Every new drone pilot buys a landing pad. After a few flights, though, you just end up catching it or landing on whatever’s nearby.

To be honest, I like my fingers and face intact, so I’ll be keeping my Mavic 3 Pro safely on the landing pad!
@Keller
Haha, so you wanna stay pretty forever?
@Keller
Looks like you actually paid attention in class!
@Keller
It’s not so bad! Just keep it above your head, reach up, grab it carefully, and kill the power. Might get tricky if it’s windy, though.
@Keller
I’ve been flying for 5 years and have probably landed on the ground twice. Hand-catching is way easier.

Wait, so… all fingers still intact, right?

Yep, 3 and a half fingers remaining! I’ve hand-caught every flight, way easier for me. I did get a scar once, though, when a friend’s drone caught a twig and the prop ended up in my cheek.

The real question is, how many fingers left? /s I fly freestyle, and I still hand-catch. The only mishap I had was accidentally arming it while holding it. I got lucky, though—still got all my fingers!
@Keller
I’ve caught my Mavic 3 Pro a few times. Feels cool but definitely a bit sketchy, especially when I tried it in sport mode.

Hey, some of us fly bigger drones than Minis! A landing pad actually comes in handy.
@Jem
Just roll over and land it on your back, true Mavic style.
@Jem
Landing pads are kind of pointless if you think about it. The air blows down, it doesn’t suck up, so debris doesn’t get pulled into the motors. It’s the floating stuff in the air that’s the issue, not the ground.
@Sydney
I work in cornfields, so there’s no flat surface. I use sections of plastic flooring for a stable platform—it’s more reliable.
