I think there are drones flying around my house at night

A few times at night, my cousins and I have seen objects flying past while stargazing in our field. We think they might be drones, but we’re not sure. Here is what we have observed:

  • They have blinking red lights and possibly white lights, though we can’t tell if the white ones blink.
  • They fly low and fast, faster than a high-flying helicopter, and we can’t hear them.

We have seen them over several nights, and it seems unlikely they’re helicopters. Do these sound like drones? If so, why are there so many? What could they be doing?

Given the blinking red and possibly white lights, the low altitude, and the speed of the objects you’re seeing, it does sound like they could be drones. Drones often use such lighting for visibility and can fly faster and quieter than helicopters. The frequent sightings could be due to commercial operations, recreational use, or even testing of new equipment. If the activity seems unusual or if you’re curious about the reason behind these drone flights, you might want to check with local authorities or nearby businesses to understand better what’s going on in your area.

The red and green blinking lights you’ve seen are common on drones. Red indicates the left side, and green indicates the right side.
