Is it possible to charge the Mavic Pro controller while it’s connected to a smartphone?

Hey guys, I’ve got a quick question for you drone experts. You know I’ve been flying my Mavic Pro a lot lately, right? So, here’s the thing – I was out all day, capturing some sick footage, and my controller’s battery started to die on me. I had my phone plugged into it the whole time.

Now, I’m wondering, is there any way to charge the controller without having to disconnect my phone? I mean, it would be super convenient to keep them tethered together, especially when I’m on the go.

Anyone figured out a workaround for this, or am I just wishful thinking here?

Sure, you can charge the controller with a power bank via the side micro USB port while your phone is connected to the controller’s bottom USB.

Batteries tend to slowly lose charge over time, though I’m not sure at what speed. You can quickly check the battery’s remaining charge by pressing the button on it. And it’s a good idea to top it up with a charge now and then, especially if you’re not sure when your next flight session will be.

That’s a good point! Lithium-ion batteries do lose charge slowly over time, even when not in use. The speed can vary depending on factors like storage temperature.

Thanks for the tip about checking the battery and topping it up before a flight. It’s always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to battery life.

I’ve had this exact issue a few times myself, especially after long days of shooting amazing drone footage. It can be super frustrating, but there are a couple of tricks that might help you out.

First off, one thing I’ve tried is using a power bank with dual ports. This way, you can plug your controller into one port and your phone into the other. It’s a bit of a juggle with the cables, but it keeps both devices charged without having to disconnect them. I usually carry a compact power bank with me on shoots, and it has saved me more times than I can count.

Another option is getting a charging hub specifically designed for the Mavic Pro controller. There are a few on the market that let you charge the controller directly while still using it. I bought one after a long day of shooting left me stranded with a dead controller, and it’s been a game-changer.

Lastly, some folks have suggested using a USB splitter cable. This allows you to connect both your phone and controller to a single power source. I haven’t tried this personally, but I’ve heard good things from other drone enthusiasts.
