Is Mavic 2 Pro still a good choice in 2025?

So guys, I picked up this drone 5 years back. After a year, I kinda lost interest and didn’t spend time on my drone hobby. Now, I feel like jumping back into it. Even if the Mavic 3 looks better on paper, the footage from the Mavic 2 still looks fantastic. What do you all think?

I use my Mavic 2 Pro all the time… Absolutely love it. Does everything I need it to.

It should definitely work for you until the Mavic 4 drops!

I’m not a pro, and it can already shoot 4k at 30fps and 10 bit D-Log. Not much has changed over the years, and 8k isn’t really for home users, so I think I’m good.

I use a Mini 2 SE, and I’m really impressed with it as a new drone pilot. Eventually, when I get better, I’ll probably upgrade and keep this one as a backup for tougher shots.

I considered selling my Mavic 2 for the Mini 4K because of its new features and ease of use. But since I already have a top-tier drone, I might be making a mistake. Still, those minis are pretty cool!

@Koa
The minis are awesome, but I think you should keep your Mavic. Unless you fly in windy areas or need longer flight times, the Mavic is still better. I have a Mini 2 SE too; that thing is a little beast! I thought I lost it in the pool, but it’s still flying perfectly even after that. It’s a great drone.

@Koa
If you can afford it, keep the Mavic 2 and aim for a Mini 4 Pro. If you’re interested in aerial photography or videography at all, you’ll wish you hadn’t traded the Mavic for a Mini. I own both a Mini 2 and Mavic 3. A Mini 4 Pro with that tech in a smaller drone would be amazing. But if you just want to fly around, go for it.

I still hold onto my Mini 2 (not SE), even though I now have a Mavic 3 that outperforms it. The reason is simple… My focus is on urban photography with both handheld gear and drones. In the city, being discreet is really important. I can fly the Mini without attracting attention, and it’s portable enough for walking around. Its 12mp camera does well for cityscapes with the right angles and editing. The downside is no collision avoidance, but I usually don’t depend on that anyway.

Also, I’ve actually printed and framed several aerial shots taken with the Mini 2, which I use in my home office, and I’ve sold some to my wife’s corporate office. Pretty neat, huh?

I own the Mavic 2 Pro and a Mini 2, and I love them both! The Mini is so easy to carry around while the Pro is super stable even in strong winds. I once flew it high to capture videos of ocean waves during a storm! Wind was nuts at 30-40 and gusting to 60!

Yeah, it’s still my main drone for work.

Some people say it’s not great, but I’d gladly take it off your hands. Honestly, it’s still a solid drone today. Just keep an eye on those batteries – some have swollen lately and need to be replaced.

Nah… but I wouldn’t mind taking it off your hands.

I don’t think it has remote ID, so in the US, you’d need to register again (I think it expires after 3 years) and get a remote ID module, which costs around $100.

RID modules are about $30 now. They’ve really dropped in price.

@Devon
Good to know! Maybe I can finally get my Spark flying again.

From what I understand, you get a module, and it’s registered to you. You can use it on any drone that needs one. For recreational flying, that is. For commercial use, each drone needs its own unique RID.

It does have remote ID.

@Cai
Oh, I thought it was too early for that, but I remember it being included in the list now.

Yeah, it was added through a software update a while back.
