Is the DJI Neo still a good buy now?

Hey! Now that the DJI Neo has been out for a bit, is it still worth picking up? I was really interested when it first dropped but I’ve never used a drone before. I was thinking my boyfriend could use it for short film stuff, and I’d use it to vlog my garden, chickens, and DIY stuff. I like that selfie feature too, but I’m wondering if the video quality and features are actually good enough. I know photography and DSLR settings a bit if that helps. Open to other ideas too!

I like mine, but just so you know—it’s not a replacement for any of the DJI Mini models.

I really like that the Neo can follow me when I’m filming solo. Do the Mini drones let you plan out a route before flying? Like if I wanted the drone to film me walking a certain path from behind—can I set points for it to follow?

@Sam
Yeah, definitely. The Mini is basically a smaller version of the Mavic—it can do all that.

@Sam
What you’re talking about is called ‘Waypoints’ or ‘Waypoint Missions’.

I have both a Mini and a Neo. With the remote, the Neo is decent—it feels kinda like a Mini but has a bit less stabilization. Still, I reach for the Neo more often just because it’s easier to carry around. If it’s something important though, I use the Mini.

It’s a fun little drone for vlogging and can get some cool shots, even if the video quality isn’t top tier.

Would you say the camera is about the same as a phone, or better? I haven’t really looked up the specs yet.

@Sam
I use a Pixel 9A and honestly, the Neo doesn’t look as good—especially in low light. You can clean up the footage a bit in editing, but I’d recommend checking out some sample videos from other users first.

It’s a pretty cool little drone. I ordered the Motion Fly More Combo from overseas.

I just picked that up from a local shop a couple days ago. Sold my Mini SE. The Neo’s easy to fly, has three flight modes, and it’s just fun to use. Plus it’s light, so if it crashes it’s less likely to break—or break anything else.

@Vero
Yeah I like it too. I think the sensor is better than the Mini 4K’s, but honestly the FPV stuff is what really makes it fun.

Haven’t taken any proper pics or video yet—just messing around for now. I’ll take it to an open field this weekend and see what it can really do.

Nothing major has changed since launch. It’s still about the same value now.

Would be awesome if they made it work with the RC-Pro remote.

If you just want easy, quick videos, it’s great. I’ve got a few drones—Phantom 4, Mini SE, Avata 2, and the Neo. When I’m out exploring, I grab the Neo. It’s fast to start, follows you, does dronies, circles, etc. Not great in wind or low light, but for filming yourself in the yard or garden, it’s ideal. Don’t expect cinema-level stuff though—it’s not 4K, but the footage is decent for casual stuff. And it’s cheap compared to the bigger drones.

The DJI Flip does the same stuff but has way better quality. I was super excited about the Neo at first but ended up returning it—just couldn’t get past how bad the video looked for anything serious.

If you’re only buying one drone, I’d stick with the Mini series. The Neo has shorter flight time. I probably would’ve bought one already as a backup if they weren’t so hard to find right now.
