Saw this listing and it says the drone is waterproof, but then further down it talks like it isn’t fully waterproof? Can someone explain what they really mean here?
Just because it says waterproof doesn’t mean it’s safe from all water. IP55 isn’t that high on the waterproof scale. Kind of like how phones say they’re water-resistant, but you’re still out of luck if water wrecks them. Same thing here—don’t expect miracles.
It’s protected for flying in rain or wet conditions, like if the motors get splashed a bit. But it’s not made to be dunked in water. Just make sure you dry it properly after.

Any idea how many flights in the rain it can take before something gets damaged?
@SkySpecter1
No easy answer for that. It depends on how heavy the rain is and how long you’re flying. Light rain might be fine for a while, but heavier rain will wear it out faster.

Got it, thanks for explaining.

DJI does have a stat for the amount of rain to avoid for the Matrice M30.
@Griff
Okay let’s break it down: if it’s rated for 100mm in 24hrs, that’s around 0.07mm per minute. That’s not much more than light mist. Definitely not made for real rain.
That drone costs $8500. Not adding the extra protection plan is just asking for trouble. And yeah, IP55 doesn’t mean waterproof. It means water-resistant to a certain extent—big difference.
All the new DJI Enterprise drones are more like water-resistant, not actually waterproof. Real waterproof would mean it could handle total water exposure, and that’s not the case here. If water gets in and damages it, the basic warranty won’t cover it. But DJI Care Plus does, so I’d definitely suggest going with that if you’re buying this kind of drone.
It doesn’t really say it’s waterproof. No smart company would actually claim something’s 100% waterproof because that’s just not true for electronics.
If someone’s saying it’s waterproof, they better be backing that up with a warranty for water damage too. Otherwise, it’s just marketing fluff.
Man, you post about the Matrice every single day.
