DJI Air 3S approved by FCC.
As much as I love my Mavic 3, the Air 3 must be selling well if they’re releasing another version. If they add an adjustable aperture, I might consider switching.

The Air 3 is awesome for the price! I fly all DJI drones, including the Mavic 3 Pro Cine, and the Air 3 is unbeatable.

The Mavic 3 Classic is so cheap now that it’s hard to choose the Air 3. Maybe I could use the Air 3 as a backup?

The dual cameras on the Air 3 are a game changer. People don’t get the Mavic 3 Pro for the 7x camera—it’s the 3x camera that matters, which the Air 3 also has. Plus, the Air 3 has a better battery system and the improved O4 transmission, which is way more reliable, especially around obstructions. For 99% of use cases, you can’t tell the difference between the Air 3 and Mavic 3 cameras unless you need large format output. If I had to choose between the Mavic 3 (non-Pro) and the Air 3, I’d go with the Air 3 every time. It’s still hundreds of dollars cheaper while offering most of the capabilities of the Pro.

The Air 3 sounds solid, but I change the aperture constantly on my Mavic 3 while filming. I haven’t flown far enough to notice transmission issues. I’d love to try both, but the adjustable aperture is hard to give up.

For your filming style, that makes sense. But for most pilots, an ND filter works fine, and in some cases, editing does the job too. The O4 transmission shines when flying in urban areas or around obstacles, which is more relevant now that BVLOS (beyond visual line of sight) is becoming legal in some cases.

I’ve used both the Mavic 3 Classic and the Air 3 on trips. The telephoto lens on the Air 3 is fun to use, but the footage doesn’t compare to the Mavic 3 Classic’s main camera in terms of detail and color. Photos on the Mavic 3 Classic are also sharper, with better dynamic range and color accuracy.

I think the sales in other regions are driving this.
Explain this like I’m 5.

The FCC approved a new drone model from DJI called the Air 3S.
I’m excited for this one!
I doubt it’ll happen, but I’d love to see a version with ProRes, even if it’s just a limited option.
I already have an Air 3 and love it! Curious to see what changes with the Air 3S.

I bought the Air 3 at full price two weeks ago… Oh well.

It’s unlikely to release soon, realistically.

Some people are teasing a September 25 release, but who knows.

Finally, obstacle avoidance at night! Thank you, DJI, for making it happen in 2024.

Does this mean it’s safe from the DJI ban?

We’re not sure, but it could be the last one approved by the FCC.
