Here’s my first 5-inch drone build. Super excited about it! Check it out and let me know your thoughts.
What camera are you using on it?

Pretty sure it’s a DJI O3 Air Unit. The camera and the antenna give it away.

You’re right, it’s the O3 unit. Planning to mount a GoPro too.
@Harlem
I knew it!
What parts did you go with? How does it fly?

I haven’t flown it yet. Waiting for the weather to clear up so I can give it a try.
Is it cheaper to build your own than to buy a pre-built one?

Not usually. Pre-built drones often come with specific hardware designed for their purpose, but building your own lets you pick every component to fit your needs. Plus, there’s something really satisfying about building it yourself. When you see it fly for the first time, it’s worth every extra penny.
@Aman
Thanks for explaining! Maybe one day I’ll give it a shot.
I want to build my first drone someday too. Did you practice a lot in a simulator before starting?

Definitely. I’m still practicing on the sim and won’t fly this build until I’ve logged more hours.
@Harlem
Cool! What radio are you using?
Radiomaster Pocket with billet gimbals. For my DJI stuff, I’m using the DJI FPV 2 and 3 goggles.
I just wrapped up my 5-inch Baby Croc build and had quite a few head-scratching moments. Started with a MicoAir F405 50A stack that was too big, so I had to print spacers. Then, two motors wouldn’t respond because the ESC was faulty. Luckily, I had a Speedybee F405 Mini ready just in case. After 5+ hours of work, it’s finally in the air!
Looks amazing!
Just a heads-up… try securing the balance lead on your battery. If it’s loose, it might get caught in the rear props. Ask me how I know this!

Thanks for the tip! Are you talking about the battery balance lead?
@Harlem
Exactly, that’s the one. Better safe than sorry!
When you build your own, are there limits to how high you can fly?
