Just got my first DJI drone… Mini 3!

I have the Mini 4 Pro, and my max range was about 2km over open water. Still, it’s a great drone.

That’s weird… it should definitely go farther than that.

Thinking about getting one soon myself!

Go for it! Buying used might save you some money too.

I’ve got the same drone. I’ve taken it up to 3km, but I’m always careful about which direction I’m flying in.

Even if it disconnects, it should return to home automatically… but I don’t really want to risk a $400+ drone.

Now you can take it to the park and get some cool shots!

Just did that! I’ll post the footage when I get a chance.

Flying beyond visual line of sight is against FAA regulations. You’re supposed to always be able to see your drone with your own eyes—no binoculars or other devices.

I’d recommend getting your TRUST certificate first. It’s free, takes only a couple of hours, and gives you the basics on safe flying. Once you complete it, you’ll be considered a recreational drone pilot.

The FAA has authorized a bunch of organizations to offer the training—Boy Scouts, for example, is one of them.

Where did you guys get those nice DJI boxes?

My longest flight was 2.3km. Keep wind direction in mind—if the wind is against you when flying back, you’ll burn more battery. That’s usually the real limit, not the signal strength.
