I’m in Vancouver, Canada, and I make e-scooter videos for brand deals. I ordered the Mini 4 Pro combo with the PLUS batteries, so my drone will weigh over 250g. Will the cops be able to tell if I’m flying it because of the remote ID? Has anyone in Canada had issues with police when flying their Minis? I won’t fly over big crowds or near airports, mostly on group rides with friends or open trails when I scooter around. I ask because I really don’t want any more run-ins with law enforcement — had enough as a kid (not drone stuff) — and I want to apply to be a cop in a few years. Any advice is appreciated, thanks.
“…I do not want any more interactions with law enforcement…”
Then just don’t break the law. You already answered your question. Don’t mess around with legal stuff.
People like that are exactly why we have remote ID in the first place.
With those plus batteries, remote ID kicks in automatically. So yeah, even flight apps can see it.
Is it safe to fly a drone while riding a motorized scooter? Unless you use active track, I don’t see how doing both at once is a good idea.
Assuming BC rules are like Ontario’s: get your basic drone operations certification, respect no-fly zones, register your drone and write the serial number on it. Police won’t bother you if you follow the laws.
It’s kinda like driving without a license — no problem until it becomes one.
If you’re lucky, no one will bother you. If not, you’ll have to deal with the consequences . On the plus side, the bigger battery gives you plenty of flight time and handles wind better than the standard one. Enjoy!
