Just received my Mini 4 Pro (RC2) - Do I need the Pro plan?

I’ve never owned a drone before and bought this one because I actually need it for some specific projects, and I also love the idea of learning to use it for many other, less “practical” applications :))

I managed to get it up and flying inside my home, took a few pictures - awesome! :slight_smile:

However, when I try to transfer those pictures to my phone, the DJI app is forcing me to upgrade to Pro and won’t connect to the drone. Is this normal? Is buying the subscription necessary?

There’s a subscription for DJI drones? I’ve had a Neo and the Mini 4 Pro for a bit now. I’ve never encountered any issues transferring photos or videos to my phone with it. I didn’t even know they offered a “Pro” subscription; I couldn’t find anything about it with a quick Google search.

@Vic
They keep pushing this “upgrade to Pro” screen constantly. It claims to offer “full manual features, remove ads, media storage management”. What the heck!? I wasn’t aware of this when I bought it.

Is it useless? How long have you had your Mini 4 Pro?

@Voss
I’ve never seen a subscription prompt like that. Are you sure you’re using the DJI Fly app?

Just take the SD card out of the drone. All your photos are stored there.

So, the reason the app can’t connect to my phone isn’t because I haven’t subscribed? And this doesn’t affect its functionality?

@Voss
I’ve never heard of any subscription service from DJI. If you want your photos, they’re on the SD card in your drone. You don’t need to pay anything to access them.

You’re definitely using the ‘DJI Fly’ app, right? I don’t have any ads or subscription options on mine.

FlyGoDrone is what appeared first. The other one is DJI Store. I don’t see any DJI apps; that’s when I realized.

Damn, that’s the problem. I had to download the APK directly from their website.

Thanks, everyone.

@Voss
No problem at all! Maybe DJI is banned in your region or you’re on a device with an uncommon app store! DJI Fly is embedded in the DJI controllers with screens, but it’s also available on mobile for viewing and transferring images!

I’m glad you figured it out! Enjoy flying!

@Cedar
I’m quite privacy-conscious, so I use a Pixel phone with GrapheneOS (a secure OS), but I do have access to an app store and have never had issues with apps before. It’s strange. However, I have the app now. Those other apps almost got the best of me. I couldn’t even delete the account I made; thankfully, it wasn’t under my real name.

Gee, I really dislike these apps and services that steal your data all the time……

@Voss
Looking at the DJI Fly app now, the other one has an identical interface and everything. How odd.

That’s exactly what I was thinking; I’ve never seen an ad or subscription prompt in the DJI Fly app.
