Looking for a budget-friendly drone as a Christmas gift

I want to get my partner a drone for Christmas. He’s asked for one with a 4K camera and GPS. My budget is around 150 (maternity pay limits me!). Does anyone know of reasonably priced drones with these features, or is it unrealistic?

Honestly, at that price, you might struggle to find something that meets those specs and works well. It might be better to save up for one he’ll truly enjoy, as drones with 4K and GPS tend to be more expensive.

The features he’s looking for are usually found in drones priced a bit over twice your budget.

The DJI Mini 4K was around £200 recently during a sale, but it might have gone back up. It’s worth checking in case there are any deals still available.

The DJI Mini 4K is one of the closest to your budget. Check Amazon; sometimes they offer payment plans that break the total into smaller monthly payments, which could make it more manageable.

You might also find the DJI Neo for around 160€ if you’re lucky, but check if it needs a separate controller. The Mini 4K usually includes a controller. Honestly, though, it might be better to give him a different gift and let him choose the drone himself. That way, he won’t be disappointed. Maybe plan a nice dinner instead?

Another option is checking eBay for used drones. It really depends on what he wants to do with the drone—whether it’s for FPV flying, hiking photos, or something else. Also, finding true 4K resolution in a drone at this price point is tough unless you add an action cam.

@Kai
Thanks! I’ll ask him what he wants to use it for and talk about adjusting the budget.

Thank you, everyone, for the advice!

You won’t find a good 4K drone at that price.

The best options close to your budget are drones like the DJI Mini 4K, DJI Mini 2, Specta Mini, or Potensic Atom. They’re slightly above your range, so you could either save up or check the used market. I found a Mini 2 for 180 on OfferUp, so deals are out there if you look around.

In the UK, drones under 250 grams are easier to fly without extra licenses, which makes them a great choice for beginners. I’d recommend the DJI Mini 2 or Mini 3. They’re very capable, have good battery life, and are backed by excellent customer service.

Right now, new ones are about £270 on Amazon, and you can find used ones on eBay for around £250 with extras like batteries and spare parts. For £100–150, you’re mostly looking at off-brand models, which might not be as reliable.

Hope this helps, and best of luck finding the perfect gift. Have a lovely Christmas and enjoy your maternity leave!
