My dad wants a drone for fishing, and he’s given me a budget of $400–$500 (but of course, I’d love to keep it as cheap as possible for him).
We’re looking for something that can carry at least a pound, has an easy return-to-home function, and is stable in the air.
I’ve also been looking into third-party dropper attachments that can release the bait, so if anyone has experience with those, I’d love to hear about it!
Just a heads-up, you might need to spend a lot more to get something reliable for fishing. Also, check if it’s legal where you’re fishing—some places don’t allow drones for this.

Good point, I’ll definitely look into the legality before we buy anything. Thanks for the warning!
I’ve seen people try this before… usually ends with the drone taking a dive. If you go for it, make sure to get good footage, I’d love to see a part 2 when it either works or crashes!
You might be able to find a used Air 2S within your budget on Facebook Marketplace. It’s an older drone, but it meets your payload requirements and has good stability.

That’s a really good idea, thanks! I’ll check Marketplace for deals.

Check out the Avata 2 and look on AliExpress for an air-dropping system (around $30) that works with it.
Thanks for the tip! I’ll look into that.
Just a heads-up—those $30 droppers usually can’t carry anywhere close to a pound, and their range is only about 150 feet. Do you really need a full pound capacity, and how far out are you looking to drop your bait?
