Mavic 3… Air 3… or wait for Mavic 4? What should I do?

I have a Mini 2 and I’m looking to upgrade. My biggest problems so far have been the limited range and weak wind resistance.

I feel like I picked the worst time to upgrade because the Mavic 3 Pro is still solid, but the Air 3 has better specs in some areas. Now the Mavic 4 Pro seems right around the corner…

Honestly, any of these would be a huge upgrade for me, so I doubt I’d even notice the small differences. But I can’t decide if I should just get one now or hold out for the Mavic 4.

Am I just overthinking this because of FOMO? The Mavic 4 might not even be that much better, and it could end up costing way more than I can afford. My budget is around €2500, and I want to get the Fly More combo.

What would you do in my situation? Should I just go for the Air 3 or Mavic 3 and stop stressing?

I had a Mini 2 before, and even moving up to a Mini 3 was a HUGE difference. The Air 3 is an even bigger jump. Honestly, no matter what you get, you’re going to love it. The only question is whether you think the Pro models are worth the extra cash.

@Zephyr
Yeah, that’s exactly where I’m at… but then I see the 7x zoom and variable aperture, and I start second-guessing myself :sob:

Careful or you’ll talk yourself into an Inspire next :joy: No matter what you pick, you’ll always have some FOMO. Just write down the features that actually matter to you and stick to that.

If I were you, I’d grab a Mavic 3 Pro when the 4 comes out. The price is going to drop a lot! I use mine for work, and the image quality is already incredible. I can’t see the Mavic 4 being enough of a difference to make me spend 3K again. I’ll probably wait until the Mavic 5… unless I crash this one :sweat_smile:

FOMO is real, but the Mavic 3’s camera is top-tier and will hold up for years. If you’re flying VLOS, don’t get distracted by things like LiDAR or insane range. Three batteries already give you 90 minutes of flight time, which is more than enough for most people. Don’t let consumerism get you!

What do you actually need it for? Are you making money with it, or is it just for fun?

I got my Mini 2 as a toy, and honestly, I still use it like that a lot. But I’ve also done some paid work with it, so it’s a mix of both.

The Mini 2 has been fine, so anything I get will be an upgrade. I think I might just be getting too caught up in the hype for the Mavic 4. The Air 3 has better performance, but the Mavic 3 has better camera features, and that’s where I keep getting stuck.

What kind of work do you use it for? If you’re doing land surveying, maybe an Inspire would be better?

Nah, nothing like that! Mostly photography and video. I’ve also done a few odd jobs like ‘Can you check if my roof has a hole?’ or ‘Can you see if my brother is where he says he is?’ :joy: But mainly just creative stuff.

@Phoenix
Haha :joy: I’ve used a Neo with an RC2 controller for similar stuff.

The little side missions are what make it fun! I used to do press photography, and sometimes if I was feeling lazy, I’d send up the drone first to see if it was even worth getting my camera out :joy:

@Phoenix
I ended up selling my cameras because my wife didn’t like me staying out late for astrophotography. Maybe I’ll grab a 3S down the line. For now, I’m loving the Neo with an RC2. The controller is overkill, but I like not relying on my phone :joy:

@Alex
Yeah, I really like the idea of a dedicated remote. I’ve taken way too many phone calls while my drone was just hovering mid-air :sweat_smile:

If you just look at demand, everyone is going to want the Mavic 4. That means people will be trying to sell their old drones for crazy prices right now (some are asking 3-4K for a used Mavic 3 :man_facepalming:). But once the 4 drops, they’ll realize they need the money and start selling them cheaper.

If you’re patient, you can get a killer deal. The Mavic 3 series is still fantastic, and barely anyone likes the Cine version, so there are already some great deals on those. The Mavic 4 will be a new design and will probably sell like crazy, but I’d hold off and keep an eye on prices for now.

I have a Mavic 3, and it’s amazing. I really don’t think waiting for the Mavic 4 is worth it. It’s going to be super expensive and heavy.

If I were you, I’d get either the Mavic 3 or the Air 3S. Personally, I’d go with the Air 3S right now.
