I am using the Mini 3 Pro for video work, and it’s been fantastic for smaller projects or tight spaces. But with bigger jobs coming up, I’m considering upgrading to the Mavic 3 series. I’m torn between the Pro and the regular Mavic 3. Do you think the extra cost for the Pro is worth it? I’m also a bit concerned that they might release the Mavic 4 soon,
@FlightFocusFinn all you need to know, the Mavic 3 Pro (and likely the Mavic 3) lacks an SDK, so if you need features like mapping, you won’t be able to use them. However, the Mini 3 Pro does have an SDK, which DJI oddly considers professional. I own both and love them for different reasons, the Mini 3 Pro is quieter and great for SDK use, while the Mavic 3 Pro excels in other areas, especially with its 3x lens. If I were buying again, I’d consider the Air 3 instead of the Mavic 3 Pro since it’s half the price and has a 3x camera.
Hey, man, I own both the regular and Pro versions of the Mavic 3. For my work, capturing city skylines for sports broadcasts, I rarely use the 3x camera. It’s useful for lens compression but often requires distance from the subject, which isn’t ideal for my needs. At night, the smaller sensor means higher ISO and more noise reduction. If your budget allows, the 3x camera offers flexibility, but the regular M3 is the best value. Check out some examples on my site; everything there is shot with the M3.
The extra lens is nice but rarely needed. Cine versions, while offering ProRes, are also rarely necessary. I use my 3Cine and Classic for most work. Note that the 3x has a smaller sensor and limited DLog-M.
