Mini 4 Pro or Avata 2 - Need Advice

Hi everyone, I’m looking to buy a drone for personal use (not for business). I realize both drones have different purposes, but if you could only choose one, which would you recommend? I’ve previously owned a Mavic 1.

I would go with the Mini 4 Pro.

For the best photo and video quality, the Mini 4 Pro is the top choice. The Avata is more for FPV flying and fun.

For photos, yes, but not for video. The 1/1.3 sensor with ultra-wide capabilities works well for real estate shoots, provided you know how to fly it effectively. The Mini can’t achieve that close and intimate feel, except for its zoom feature.

Mini 4 pro. I have one and absolutely love it!!! There’s nothing more I could want on a drone. Mini 4 pro is dope for personal use! I got some good footage the other day of this 50 foot beached gray whale near my house! The footage is incredible with a mini 4 pro. Get extra batteries though because it’s so fun you’ll need to swap them out while flying.

The Mini 4 Pro can do more of what the Avata offers than the other way around.

Can it fly FPV or fast in manual mode? I didn’t think so.

You can fly it FPV, but it requires additional equipment sold separately. That’s essentially the only advantage the Avata has.

@Zimri
It’s a good investment since the Mini 4 Pro can work with it. While it lacks smart tracking features, FPV flying captures viewer attention better than slow drone footage. Also, for social media uploads, low-resolution footage doesn’t hold as much weight; it may lack picture quality, but FPV demands more skill.

The Avata 2 is much more enjoyable to fly, but it’s not great for aerial photography. It really depends on what you want—if you’re looking for fun, the Mini can feel a bit monotonous.

When you say ‘nothing,’ do you mean it’s bad or just not particularly special?

@Kelby
I’d say it’s bad. It doesn’t shoot in raw format and lacks a vertical mode for social media. I enjoy the features on my Mini, but I rarely fly it just for fun compared to my FPV drones.

I own both, along with an Air 3S which I typically use for quality video. Each does video well, so focus on what you want. The Mini 4 Pro is great for flying around people since it’s quiet and becomes unnoticed when it’s about 10 meters away. Plus, it has a full gimbal, ensuring steady video, even in wind. Unlike the Mini 4 Pro, which uses a typical controller with a screen, the Avata requires goggles.

I enjoy the Avata 2 the most; I thought it would be for racing cars, but even with the motion controller, it’s just a blast. I tend to pull out the camera drones only for specific video shoots but fly the Avata 2 frequently for fun, even just doing figure eights through trees. That excitement is often overlooked before buying one.

All drones tilt to compensate for wind, which is how they maintain a straight hover. Camera drones have full gimbals for steady shots, while the Avata 2 has a vertical gimbal, so its camera tilts with the drone. Ultimately, it comes down to what you want to do with a drone.

I were in the same position. I decided for the avata 2 and i am so freaking happy about it!! Maybe the 4 pro can technically get better quality but i think as long as you are not a prefessional or something you will not recognize a difference. The video quality of the avata is breathtaking. And you also can do like „normal drone shots“, like flying up and do a circle for landscape shooting. But you will enjoy every second of flying. I would directly buy it again asap. The picture is a screenshot of a 360 i did at this beach. I think the quality is more than great and it was like the 2nd flight so the camera settings weren‘t Perfect at that time. I can really recommend it!!

I faced the same dilemma and ultimately chose the Mini 4 Pro. No regrets.

If you’re interested in flying in manual mode, go for the Avata 2. Otherwise, what draws you to the Avata 2? Why choose between these two?

I have both drones. I use the Mini 4 Pro for pictures and cinematic content, while I fly the Avata 2 for fun. Both are great; it just depends on your intended use.

Go for the Mini 4 Pro. It’s an excellent starter drone with plenty of safety features and a less steep learning curve. A solid choice overall.
