Minor improvements you'd love to see in drones/controllers?

Obviously, with every new drone, we all want better cameras and longer flight times. But what about the little things? The minor tweaks that would save a few seconds or just make the experience less frustrating?

One of my biggest annoyances—updating the home point—was actually improved in a recent DJI update, so there’s hope for other small changes too.

For me, I’d love to see:

  • More rebindable buttons, or at least the option to set click/double-click/hold functions on existing ones. (I know some Nx controllers have double-click, but they only have one button.) It’d be great to quickly access more than two functions.
  • Faster processing for panoramas, hyperlapses, AEB, burst shots, etc. Maybe allow background processing? I don’t need the final stitched panorama immediately—I’d rather keep shooting and let the drone process it later.
  • A way to apply video/photo settings across all modes. It’s nice that QuickShots and Video have separate settings, but an ‘Apply to All’ button would be super useful.
  • Larger offline map downloads. People have been asking for this forever, but it still hasn’t changed.
  • Better patch notes from DJI. “Fixed some issues” doesn’t tell us anything!

All I want is an adjustable aperture on the Air series. Having to land and swap ND filters every time the lighting changes is a pain. That feature is locked behind the Mavic line, and I wish it wasn’t.

I just want fully customizable controls. None of the current options feel natural to me as someone who’s been gaming with FPS controls for 20+ years. I’d be a much better pilot if I could set things up my way. And why can’t we reverse the pitch up/down wheel for the camera? It’s backwards!

@Jess
Yeah, I’ve had a hard time getting used to the default controls too. What mode do you usually fly in? I’ve been thinking about trying Mode 3 to see if it feels more natural, especially as a gamer.
