New to drone editing… where should I even start?

Hi everyone,

I recently got a Mini 4 Pro, and I’m loving it so far! I’ve always been into photography, and now I want to take it up a notch with drone footage. My goal is to eventually turn this into a small side hustle by selling high-quality videos.

I live in a small but beautiful beach town with amazing sunrises, sunsets, and charming waterfront areas. I’d love to capture its beauty and share it through well-edited videos. I’m dedicating 5 hours a week to learning editing, but I’m completely new to this and feeling a little lost.

What’s the best way for a beginner to get started with editing drone footage? Any software, tutorials, or tips you recommend? Would really appreciate anything you can share!

Hey, starting out can be tough with so many options out there! Here’s what worked for me:

  1. Pick an editing tool first. I went with Davinci Resolve since it’s free and powerful.
  2. Learn the basics like cutting, splicing, and exporting your footage.
  3. Move on to color grading. Look into applying LUTs and manual color adjustments.
  4. Watch drone videos and try to mimic cool effects like speed ramps and transitions. Tracking effects are fun too!

Take it one step at a time, and you’ll get the hang of it. Have fun!

You should check out Stewart and Alina’s channel on YouTube. They’re filmmakers who focus more on storytelling than tech.

I took their beginner course and found it super helpful. You can find a lot of the same tips in their videos, but the course organizes it all in one place. They emphasize that it’s not about having the best gear—it’s about the stories you tell and how you use lighting and composition.

Totally agree! Stewart and Alina’s content is so useful. They break down the basics of getting cinematic shots, and their experience flying in Scotland’s tough weather is impressive. It’s all about nailing those great shots!

Try Davinci Resolve for PC! It’s free and works really well for editing. I use it with my DJI Mini 4 Pro and Action 5.
