I only bought one for just for fun or when I travel to get nice views. If I do need to register my drone on faa website, which option would it be? Standard or broadcast? Sort of confuse with that one lol
If you are in the US, just register it. Even adding the smallest accessory will push it over 250 grams, requiring registration. For just $5, you avoid restrictions on what you can do with your drone.
What this person said. It takes less than an hour and is a straightforward process. Plus, you’ll get to add a cool sticker to your drone.
Where did you place the label on your Mini 3 Pro? I have a Mini 3, which is the same size, but I’m unsure where to put the label or what to use. Is a standard Sharpie okay?
If you’re in the US, the whole process takes about 30-45 minutes.
First, register your drone at the FAA Dronezone site: FAA Dronezone. This takes just a few minutes and costs $5 for a 3-year registration. You’ll need your drone’s remote ID, which you can find in the DJI Fly app under the top-right ellipses > About > Aircraft SN. Connect your drone first to get this information.
After registration, you’ll receive a PDF to print out. Next, you’ll need to complete a TRUST safety course, which takes about 20-30 minutes. It’s a multiple-choice test that allows you to retake questions you get wrong. You can use Dronetrust.com for this, and it’s free.
Even though the DJI Mini 3 is under the 250g limit for recreational use, by September 2023, the FAA will require all drones to register their remote IDs, regardless of their weight or usage. The details of how this will be implemented are still unclear.
In the Netherlands/Europe you need to register your self as an drone operator. Not the drone it self. And no certificate needed
What about if you sell your photos/videos taken in that location?
If you are using the drone for commercial purposes, you’ll need a license or flight certificate. However, you don’t need to register the drone itself. Instead, you’ll need to attach a fireproof tag with your operator number to the drone.
Ok cool thank you for the information!! @Sasha_Crystal
What about if you are from the United States, visit Europe for a week, take drone photos/videos, and want to sell them?
Get license/flight certificate, put operator number on the drone with a fireproof tag, and then follow any US related rules too?
Just trying to confirm. Thanks!
You don’t actually need to register the Mini 3 Pro if you’re using it only for recreational purposes, provided you use the standard-strength batteries.
Do you know the UAS model for the DJI Mini 3? I need this information for registration, and I’m not sure where to locate it. I’m planning to use it for commercial work and get the larger battery.
I am also debating whether I should upgrade to the Mini 4 Pro or one of the Mavic models.
I can’t see it being anything other than a Class 1. All the Mini drones are under 250 grams unless you attach an extended life battery. With the larger batteries, they weigh around 275 grams, which might mean additional rules and regulations.
If you are doing commercial work, there will be some extra paperwork involved. You will need to pass the test and cover the costs to operate, but the process is fairly straightforward. Personally, I would suggest waiting until you have job opportunities lined up before going through all that, but you know better where you plan to take it and how committed you are. Best of luck!
